After the 3rd Gen 4Runner, Toyota redesigned the mounting position on the 4th and 5th Gen 4Runners and moved the shocks outboard to improve upon the ride quality. Here are a few of the most important reasons on why you may want to do this modification.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eShocks are most efficient when mounted in line with the line of travel. The factory shocks are mounted at an angle and are not as effective during normal driving conditions.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe OEM mounting point creates a \"bowl\". There is a driver and a passenger side to the OSM. If you want it to be lower, you may cut off the portion on the bottom and move the mount lower. Install the shock and ensure that this is where you want to position the mount before fully welding in place.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWeld the mount in place. Once the surface is cool to the touch, paint the bare metal and reinstall your shocks.
