LIKE MANY GREAT THINGS, IT ALL STARTED IN A GARAGE.
TEQ Customs, or at least what would eventually be TEQ Customs, started in a garage in 2020. Hunter and Miles, the co-owners of TEQ, enjoyed working on their 3rd Gen 4Runners in the garage of Miles' dad, Russ. After getting fed up with the poor headlight output of the stock headlights, our two protagonists set out to make an upgrade for their vehicles. The first ever set of TEQ headlights was a hit on social media. After getting a few requests to build similar headlights for other folks, Hunter and Miles figured it would be a great way to make some extra money to buy, you guessed it, more 4Runner parts.
It soon became apparent the idea was a hit. In early 2021, TEQ Customs officially became a business. As a result of the success, it was evident more space was needed. Enter, the first TEQ Shop; a 300 sq ft storage unit in Durham, NC, just down the road from where the fellas went to school at the University of North Carolina (Go Heels!).
The first storage unit lasted about 3 months, Thankfully, the complex had larger units to move into- a whopping 700 sqft. The larger unit subsequently lasted until February 2022, when Hunter and Miles took a huge leap of faith and leased a building 10x the size of the larger storage unit. After moving and setting up the new space, June 2022 marked the grand opening of the first public facing TEQ location, where we are still located today (Come say hi anytime!)
After the move, TEQ began offering install, maintenance, and some fabrication services to customers in the Raleigh and Eastern NC areas. To help foster community, TEQ hosts a monthly Rigs and Coffee meetup at the shop, which is regularly used to give back to the community. In 2024 TEQ had the opportunity to run a supply drive for Western NC hurricane recovery, a toy drive to support Zach's Toy Chest, and donate raffle prizes to support the Venture Unknown Foundation.
What started as a tiny operation has grown to a dedicated and knowledgeable team of 20. Though the growth has been large, TEQ remains dedicated to hiring to meet demand, ensuring programs are in place to ensure a high quality product, and prioritizing the satisfaction of our customers. After all, you're the ones who helped make our dreams a reality.
